Botanical painting at Kiftsgate Court
In April 2026, the renowned Kiftsgate Court Gardens offers a rare opportunity to explore the art of botanical painting in one of the Cotswolds’ most inspiring garden settings. Taking place on Tuesday 21 April from 9am to 1pm, this intimate workshop is led by acclaimed British botanical artist Katharine Amies and is limited to just ten participants, ensuring a relaxed and highly personal experience.
Set on the garden veranda overlooking Kiftsgate’s celebrated borders, the morning begins with the fundamentals of observational drawing. Guests learn how to use pencil to create convincing three-dimensional form before progressing to delicate watercolour techniques, guided by Katharine’s expert demonstrations on building smooth, luminous layers of colour. Participants then create their own finished botanical study, working from a flower or small natural subject, and leave with both a completed artwork and a renewed sense of creative confidence.
Katharine Amies trained at Chelsea Physic Garden and her work is held in prestigious international collections including the Shirley Sherwood Collection at Kew Gardens and the Hunt Institute in Pittsburgh. Her workshops are widely admired for their supportive, accessible teaching style, welcoming complete beginners as well as those with prior experience.
Priced at £85 per person and including all materials along with tea, coffee and pastries, the workshop also allows participants to enjoy the gardens at leisure afterwards. Lunch is available to purchase from the tearoom, making this a beautifully unhurried morning of art, nature and quiet creativity at one of the Cotswolds’ most treasured gardens.
